As with any major setback, whether it be a pandemic or economic failure on a wide scale, people and businesses suffer. But, from these setbacks, there are people great and small that rise from this to prosper at different levels, not only helping themselves, but providing a service to others.
Most notable Charles Wiley of Charles Wiley & Son in the depression of 1807-1814, who turned his small print shop into a $2 billion enterprise and was eventually listed in the New York Stock Exchange. During the Great Depression , 1929-1939, Doctors Ralph Faulk and Donald Baxter from Iowa, brought intravenous medical treatment to the masses. Their company became Baxter International. Market value, $ 37 Billion.
But there are also the every day common people that rise up!
In my own family, my sister Grace and my daughter, Lindsay. My sister, as a small child years ago, learned how to crochet from our grandmother. Recently laid up due to an unfortunate accident during the pandemic, she took her skills and began making purses, handbags, wine baskets, hats, etc. My daughter, Lindsay, during this pandemic shutdown, began self-manufacturing candles in various styles and shapes.
Their products are so popular, they are selling out as fast as they can produce their items. Both are to the point where they are processing special requests. Both have thriving online businesses. Their stores are Gracealinasdesigns and CozyCreationsUK, respectively.
As the old saying goes, “ where one door closes, another door opens.”
So, the moral here is, when you think all hope is lost, hope gives you the courage to keep you moving forward, to overcome whatever the obstacle is. To succeed not only for yourself, but for the benefit of others.
